The state government on Wednesday informed the Gujarat High Court that it has started issuing notices to buildings that do not have fire safety and BU permission in all 156 municipalities across the state. The issue of fire incident in AMC-run SVP hospital also came up during the hearing and the government submitted that no casualty reported and the fire was doused within 10 minutes due to effective fire safety equipment there. During the hearing, it was submitted by the government that it has collected data of buildings having no fire safety NOC and BU permission in the 156 municipalities and they have been served notices to complete the legal formalities. Such buildings will be sealed if they do not comply with the norms and court orders. The HC was hearing a PIL over an issue of lack of fire safety in hospitals in the state after loss of nine lives in the Shrey hospital fire in Ahmedabad some years ago. The issue of BU permission to high-rises, hospitals and schools was taken up by the court after the incident. It had issued orders asking the authorities to take stern action against managements of such entities.
